Hip Chick Zine: How'd you get started?
Lori: I was actually looking for a bag to go with an outfit for an event that I had
and was really disappointed by the selection. That inspired me to design my
own bags. I never realized how much I would enjoy it. I love my work. It's not
always easy and I still have a lot to learn, but it is incredible for me to see
something I designed come to fruition and even more incredible, when
someone else likes it.
HCZ: What inspires you?
Lori: I am inspired by so many different things. Nature, people, my everyday
surroundings and really by what I feel a hip and stylish woman may like in a
handbac for whatever occasion she needs it for. If I don't like it or I wouldn't
carry it, I don't put my name on it. I insist on quality and attention to detail. I
strive for each bag to be its own piece of art for the person who carries it. I
want my customer to love it and to reach for it over and over. For example, the
inspiration for my shell bags was resort life; being in a tropical location
surrounded by the ocean. What would be the perfect kind of bag to have that
would also translate back home during spring and summer? A fun and
unique bag made of duponi silk and ivory beads and shell buttons that would
be beautiful to carry.
HCZ: What's your favorite material to work with?
Lori: I love beads. I just think they are so beautiful. They make the ordinary
come to life. I'm falling in love with leather too. It's new to me but I am
designing some great bags. I have some new ones coming out that are
leather and beading combined that are going to be stunning.
HCZ: Favorite place on earth to travel to?
Lori: Argentina. Buenos Aires. This city is so alive. The food is delicious, the
architecture is amazing and fashion and elegance is reflected in every aspect
of life. It is a city that is a mix of the English, French, Italian and Spanish
cultures, and makes you feel like you could be in Italy, Paris or London. It is
my favorite city in the world so far.
