LOOKIN' GOOD
Answers to your most pressing beauty queries
Your appearance is only a small part of who you are as a person,
but let's admit it: we all have questions. We went to the experts to
learn how to update your hairstyle to why antioxidants are so
fabulous.
Q. I want to change my haircut but I don't want to cut it all off.
How can I give my locks a boost?
A. Lucky for you, there are numerous ways of changing your look
without sacrificing length. The easiest way of updating your hair is
to run to your stylist and have her cut some very hip and flattering
layers right near your face. Or, cut some transforming side-swept
bangs for instant glam. If your hair is short or straight, try working
some texture into your look by utilizing a wax or styling gel and
using your fingers to brush your hair. This will create some natural,
loose waves. Twists and ponytails were also viewed all over the
runway, as well as slim headbands in eye-catching colors.
Experiment with your hair and find a look that's right for you.
Q. Why are antioxidants good for my skin?

A. In our everyday lives, we come into contact with
free radicals, which are prevalent in pollution,
cigarette smoke, and even the food we intake.
Free radicals are devilishly unstable molecules
that try to take electrons from the cells of our body.
If a free radical succeeds in taking the electron, it
creates another unstable molecule, creating a
chain reaction. In our bodies, free radicals can
cause diseases and other problems. For our
skin, they can damage our skin cells, while
causing pre-mature aging and irritation.
Antioxidants are nutrients that fight against free
radicals, helping our immune system and making
our skin much happier. Thankfully, many
companies are aware of the benefits of
antioxidants so it is not difficult to find
antioxidant-rich products. Vitamins E & C,
selenium and beta carotene are all good sources
of antioxidants. One of our favorite, all-natural
picks for skincare? Jason Ester-C Super-C Toner,
a pH balancing antioxidant toner that minimizes
pores, prevents free radical damage and
premature aging, and refreshes and soothes our
skin. It also has a wonderful, citrusy scent.
Q. I have dark skin and have a difficult time of finding
eyeshadows that stand out well and stay put.

A. Lucky for you, metallics are all the rage right now and they will
show up beautifully with your dark complexion. Gold and silver are
especially making a comeback, with Prada and Chanel runways
both sporting the look. Our favorite? Put a sheer but shimmery
silver shadow on top, and line under your eyes with gold. The look
is ultramodern and tres hip. To get the color to stay put, gently
powder your eyelids. An eyelid primer is another alternative, such
as Clarins Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base or Clinique All About
Eyes, which also diminishes puffiness and darkness from the eye
area.
