Your Time
You CAN beat
stress
It may seem like no matter
what you do to rid yourself
of stress-- yoga, massage,
dance classes, drinking
green tea-- you're still
feeling insanely stressed
out. Below, some tips that,
yes, may even help you
shed the layers of
pressure, exhaustion and
tension.
1. Slow yourself down, if
only for a couple minutes.
When we're stressed out, it
carries through into other
areas of our lives and in
today's world, we're taught
to move, talk and eat
quickly. These habits are
not good for your personal
well-being and can
eventually take a toll on your
health. To train yourself to
take it slow, instead of
sitting at your desk working
on an essay and eating,
take a few minutes to sit
and eat slowly. It's amazing
how such a minor change
can have such a large
impact.
2. Stop doing activities that feel like
a chore.
We're not suggesting you stop writing
papers or going to classes, but end
problematic things you have control
over. Are your relationship problems
stressing you out? Try to talk it out or
end it. Have a toxic friend? Distance
yourself. If your job is no longer
enjoyable, look into another one that
you think would better suit your
needs. When you fix the situations
that are troubling you, you'll feel
stronger.
3. Try something new.
It's an amazing feeling and self-confidence
booster when you find you're good at a new
activity, and being part of a group can help to
re-energize. Whether it's trying a new type of
dance, mountain biking, water aerobics, or a
Thai cooking class, sign up for something you've
never done before. Sure, it can be frightening to
try a new thing, but you'll probably find joy in it.
Plus, when you're focusing on the activity, it's
taking energy away from the stressing and
putting it towards something exciting and
invigorating.
